Murder attempt on journalist condemned

Further, terming the attack on journalist as shameful and cowardice act, both the organizations appealed to the state government to nab the culprit(s) and give exemplary punishment to them.
Meanwhile, a team of state NCP, including Ngurang Pinch, Tad Tana and Karto Kai visited ailing journalist Tongam Rina at RK Mission Hospital in Itanagar today and enquired about her health.
Condemning the attack on the journalist in the strongest terms, they wished her swift recovery and expressed hope that she would return to her job and continue to serve the society through her journalistic career.
Pinch demanded the GoAP to ensure that the attacker is arrested at the earliest and punished as per law. He advised the GoAP to hand the case over to the CBI if the law enforcing agencies of the state are unable to bring the culprit (s) to book.

GASA resents lack of water & power supply
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: The Guwahati Arunachal Students Association (GASA) in a release informed that there is no electricity and water supply at Arunachal Guest House in Guwahati since last 5 days. Terming the situation as shameful, association said DRC Guwahati has failed to take steps in this regard.
Financial assistance demanded for budding player
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Adi Students’ Union, Itanagar in a memorandum to the state Govt today appealed for immediate financial assistance to budding Tennis player Mingki Talom.
It said that Mingki has been selected to get training at New York, USA but due to financial and visa/passport related problems Talom is unable to proceed to USA.
It also appealed to the Govt to provide monthly stipend to Talom and sponsor at least 12 tournaments in a year.

The brutual attack on Tongam Rina is highly shocking and condemnable. The outrage over the horrifying incident is overwhelming. However, considering the law enforceing agencie’s laxity and complacency such untoward incident was imminent, if our memory serves right, the journalist reportedly received death threats in the recent past. Just three months back the office of the Arunachal Times was vandalized by a group of masked intruders. In another incident, two lady scribes were attacked by a rogue element in uniform.
Apparentaly, in all these cases, the authorities concerned failed to deliver justice. The attack on the journalist could have been averted, if they had shown diligence and sincerity in their obligation of tracing out the culprits and taking them to task in nick of time. It’s expected that the government would understand the public outcry and instead of paying lip service, leave no stone unturned to nab the culprit/s and ensure that justice is delivered.
All the media houses and media persons deserve adequate security enabling the watchdog of democracy to discharge their duties efficiently. The whole state stands in solidarity with Tongam Rina and the Press fraternity in their fight for dignity and justice.

Increase intake capacity of B.Sc students in colleges
Dear Editor,
It is a tight slaps on the face of those students whose determination to become a doctor/engineer through joint entrance examination made them work hard for a year attending coaching classes, dropping their 1st year after 12th board exam. This step is very common all over India where students aim at taking up a particular profession whether medical or engineering by spending lots of money in study every year.
On the other side, let us not ignore the bitter truth. Not every student gets selected in Joint Entrance Examination(s). Hence, those students with financially weak background go for BA or B. Sc degree in Arunachal Pradesh – the common scene which prevails, those aspiring to become a doctor joins B.Sc in Dera Natung Govt College or JNC, Pasighat. But, if you personally encounter any B. Sc graduate, they would definitely express their willingness to go for medical courses in spite of simple B Sc. But due to financial problem, they stopped dreaming of what they had dreamt before.
Now, let us see what happened to our students, when they want admission in B. Sc in D N G College, they are told ‘1 year drop out after 12th’ won’t be given first preference or direct admission. They will have to wait for certain days, if seats are available after the admission of fresh students, they will look into the matter. Not only that, their form were even not accepted.

Arunachal itself does not provide the educational facilities like medical college or engineering college other than NIT and NERIST and with such weak financial background where all those frustrated students will suppose to go if the Govt colleges refuse to take them.
In this respect, the Govt is requested to increase the intake capacity of B Sc students in Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar so that all the students irrespective of fresh or one year drop out after class XII could get admission in B Sc course.

I would like to share my personal views on the latest happening in the state, particularly regarding shooting out case against Tongam Rina, who happened to be Associate Editor of Arunachal Times. It is a cowardice act on the culprit who shot at female member who does not have physical strength to fight back.
It is condemnable from all quarters, and I personally condemn this incident. Let's not politicize this issue and let's not aggravate this problem into a communal based issue. Miss Tongam Rina belongs to Arunachal Pradesh and we are all Arunachalis. As regard to the said incident, let’s not blame the government only. Let’s cooperate the police to nab the culprit. Yes, it is government's fault not punishing the criminals in strictest way. Police are also human being, let's cooperate the law enforcing department collectively in nabbing the culprits to win the reward from the Creator instead of cash reward offered by the police. "Long Live Arunachali".

The state of Arunachal Pradesh has become the land where the minor girls are raped and women are shot at. Govt and Women Welfare Society should deal with such incidents, which has been happening repeatedly in every corner of the state almost every month, with iron hand. For safe and secure environment for women
In May last, the Union Cabinet provided its nod to the ‘Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill’. The bill was brought forward after a group of ministers addressed concerns regarding burden of proof in cases of sexual harassment earlier rested with the employer.

Prepared after extensive consultations with various stakeholders including lawyers and civil society organizations, the forthcoming bill has the potential of bringing about a positive impact on women’s participation in work.
The Indian Constitution guaranteed the gender equity under Article 14, 15 and 21 which includes protection from sexual harassment and the right to work with dignity and it is hoped that the proposed Bill against sexual harassment of women at the workplace will get the approval from both the Houses during the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament. If the Bill is passed it would help women secure their fundamental right as citizens to practice any profession or any occupation in an equitable, safe and secure environment.
The parliamentary committee’s recommendations for the inclusion of domestic workers as part of the bill is therefore an important development, as it will cover 4.75 million of India’s domestic workers, accounting for 30 per cent of the female workforce in the country’s unorganized sector.
